Thoughts from Randy

Our friend, Hopkins

This week we are missing a special face around the shop here in Greensboro. On November 13th we lost another of our shop dogs — Hopkins, the very distinguished rough-coat Jack Russell terrier who our regular visitors probably remember most for his “napping” in the dog house up front or his constant curiosity about what snack they might had brought with them! At nearly 16 years of age, Hopkins had been a loyal friend to Randy and his other pups for many years; for me, he has a been a daily companion for the past three years, perched by my desk, thinking every rattle of an envelope was surely a food wrapper in some form, and eagerly anticipating that I had brought something yummy for lunch that day! Taking him out for “breaks” has been part of our daily routine and I have to admit that he was a good listener when I was quietly working up front and there was no one else around. There’s something endearing about shop dogs who greet you first thing in the morning — and who welcome customers at the front door.  Their presence creates a “shopping” atmosphere that seems like home … warm, friendly, and a place you’d like to stay awhile. And that was Hopkins … warm, friendly and loyal … and even though Frida, Randy’s remaining canine companion, occasionally growled a bit when she had to crawl over him to snuggle inside the house for a nap, I know she joins us all in missing him greatly. Stop in soon to see some of our favorite photos of our dear friend, Hopkins, who didn’t get to stay with us quite long enough.
